FWIW, I had a YouTube comment suggesting I should stop covering politics and just stick to reviews. I think that's really bad advice. How can you not cover things like this that will have a direct impact on your truck buying experience? Just like when I covered the UAW strike, the changes to the CAFE laws, California's proposed and now dead diesel ban. I think these things matter greatly.

I just listened to the head of the Canadian automotive association suggesting by Thursday or Friday you'll start to see the impacts of the tariffs. He also thought raw materials may stop being sent across the borders, on both sides, which would defacto shut down automotive plants.
 
I think someone does not understand how well integrated and how depended on each other are in that that industry.

I believe only the Silverado (1500 and HD) is being built in Canada, all others in the US (and Mexico). The most sold pickup in Canada is the F150 which is built in the US.

Built in Canada:
  • Chevrolet Silverado (gas only)
  • Chrysler Pacifica, Chrysler Grand Caravan
  • Dodge Charger
  • Honda Civic, Honda CR-V
  • Lexus RX
  • Toyota RAV4, Lexus NX

As a Canadian, I would hold off for sure, and lots of people now are starting to no longer care if Chinese vehicles would come in, which would be very bad for the industry, and it is not something I wish to see, and the 100% import fee on them to protect the auto industry can be very easily lifted. Mostly since few years ago, both our governments helped bailing out GM and FCA from bankruptcy (yes, Canada may have put less money, but population is also 1/10 of the US).

You can't think of selling on a market with the thought of not building anything there. You can’t have all the bread and the butter.

We need to remember America is very big, it is a continent going from almost north to south pole.

Hope sincerely things will get resolved very quickly for everyone, mostly for consumers and workers as we are the one always paying the price for any insanity.
 
Another thing, 75% to 78% of people in the USA can't afford a new vehicle at current prices, adding 25% to the price they already can't afford isn't going to get a whole lot iof sympathy from the majority of Americans.
 
I feel very bad about all of this.

We all knew on this side of the border if the Trump administration pushes trough with it, the Canadian government will respond, and they have the support of the population from East to West coast. I do not want Canada to be the 51st state, and I do not want USA to become a Canadian province. We are both distinct people that can respect each other and collaborate.

I am in IT, and did some projects in the automotive industry, and it is amazing how integrated a part supplier could be with all the factories, not only with 1 brand but all car brands, lots of real-time supplies as well.

We say it is an assembly plant, because parts are coming from all over the world, but all put together in one place.

If I remember, the most American vehicle few years ago was a Honda (pilot or Passport can’t remember)

This is your vocation. Reporting on the automotive world of sales and how anything affects it. Pointing out the negative/positive results is also factual. You aren't being political. The tendency to blame any "negative" thing on a certain party or group of people is political.
 
Another Another thing. If I had my way there would be no tarrifs and all auto import laws would be removed, it would be informational only, so basically NHTSA and EPA would be a ratings service with no ability to outlaw or prevent importing any vehicle.
