KIA is also planning a compact EV pickup for the U.S. market.

I know that Kia will do well because they are established. Slate is an upstart with big backing, for now, that is showing a vehicle that the passionate have been wanting. That's what going to make it interesting for me. Are there enough buyers out there who will pay for a S-10/Ranger/early Tacoma single cab pickup truck? Will that bed be long enough? I've already heard complaints that it's not a true six foot bed on other sites.

It's going to be interesting.

To have any real sales it would have to be a crew cab, I prefer regular cabs but thats not where the sales are.
Its going to be funny in the future when the government does the same thing to electric vehicles that they did to ICE with fuel economy ratings, the proposal for a feasability study is probably on some EPA workers computer right now.

From what I've seen, about a third of Autopian readers. Figure about a quarter of them will actually buy one.

There is the fleets though. You don't need a crew cab to deliver parts.
