Questions about my new Big Horn Night Edition: E-Locker axle? Flashing lights on steering wheel... Hot engine compartment hours after shut off, & more

Man, that rebel would be a sweet ride. I’ve always liked them but was too cheap to buy one…lol
Sounds like your dealer really wants to make you happy. That’s how all dealers should act.
The Rebel is only about $9k more when comparing the Big Horn sticker price to the Rebel; the base Big Horn was $65.4k, but $83.8 with all of the all optional equipment - that's a lot of optional equipment, but that's why I chose this particular truck. But, the Rebel will suit me so much better, and the step up in cost won't be all that painful, considering the cost of the truck I already bought. I really do hope they make this happen - if not, I don't want to have to say it, but I might hire talk to a lawyer. After all, it isn't just a button, it is an entire system - the E-Locker Rear Axle, and everything it includes and provides... I am hopeful - like I said before, the dealer makes more money if I buy a more expensive truck, so it is in their best interest to help me get into it. Will post when I have a definitive answer.

For fun, here's the Window Sticker for the Rebel. If FCA helps make the swap happen, the only thing I'm going to miss is the pano sun/moon roof that the Big Horn has - the Rebel does not - but the Rebel is so much more my thing (I believe I mentioned before, I have a Jeep Wrangler - an E-Locker and solid axle is such a game changer) .. The sad part is that I had no idea what the Rebel was - I just bought a Big Horn because I have one, and I like it, and when I saw that it could have a ton of the options that higher trim levels can have, I sought out a Big Horn, and found one with an E-Locker (according to the sticker, aye... which is where this thread came from, but anyway) Sticker:

One more small follow up post for now ; The dealer shared the email he sent to FCA, and he wants them to either give them enough $$ to make up what they will lose by taking it back as a trade in, or they should take it back themselves because the build doesn't match the invoice - and he shared their invoice with me. He was right - this was FCA's mistake - the window sticker matches the invoice. I told him I really don't want this truck (because I want the E-Locker, and therefore want the Rebel) and he said "we'll get you out of it, don't worry!" - nice to have the dealer behind me like that. Helps that it looks like it is FCA's mistake, not the dealer's. Hoping for an answer any day now...

Good Luck. I hope you get that Rebel. Glad the dealer's working with you.
Thanks! I figured I should share, since they are being accommodating. There is hope, and it seems like there are still good people in the world. It isn't often a dealership will share their invoice with the customer! He shared the entire invoice, but I cropped the rest of it, as this is the important part - and when he showed me this, and he highlighted it, it shows he means what he says.

Holy smokes… that’s amazing… so, are you happy now or going for a Rebel???
Sadly, because they just had to add the button, I technically got what I paid for, so Chrysler won't take it back, which means I'd have to trade in the Big Horn to get the Rebel. Had I bought the Rebel in the first place, it would have only cost me about $8k more (and it has come down another $1500 now...) but I'd lose my shirt on a trade in... My payment is about $615 every two weeks, but if they took the Big Horn on trade, to sell me the Rebel, the payment would go up to $824 every two weeks, so, no, I'm not getting into a Rebel (unless this Big Horn explodes on me while I'm driving it, and insurance pays it off!)

I did buy this truck because it is gorgeous. The Rebel had a bunch of bells and whistles the Big Horn doesn't have, but the Big Horn gives a smoother ride on the road, handled better (with my studded tires, instead of the off road tires) - not sure how much the off road suspension played into it. I also felt some turbo lag when accelerating in the Rebel, but I get none of that in the Big Horn - not sure why that is... Plus, the Big Horn has the pano roof, which the wife loves. And honestly, the 1" lift in the Rebel isn't huge - I figure we'll just use the Jeep if we want to do some serious off roading, while this truck will still do almost everything the Jeep can do, except tight trails and hard core rock crawling - but the truck has a rear locker, which the Jeep doesn't have, so they kind of even out, depending on the goal. I'm starting to ramble - I've convinced myself more than once that one truck was the right one, then the other was the right one - and again - but when he told me today on the phone that they had added the axle lock button, and tested it, and it works as expected, I was surprised, but I wasn't angry/disappointed, other than in that it would have been nice to have the Rebel for a number of reasons, this truck also gets the job done. And I might just swap out the street tires when the warm weather hits, for some K03's on some 18" rims (17's would probably not give as smooth a ride on the road..)

Now I just need to confirm whether or not it also actually has the antispin rear diff as well, or if having the E Locker is mutually exclusive ... This is a screenshot from Ram's brochure of the Night Edition, which is what the truck is, and it says right there that there's an antispin differential... I asked the dealer, but who knows if I'll get an answer, considering it took a month for them to figure this out. Of course, I'm happy that they at least figured out the axle lock situation, but trying to get a simple answer like this "does it have an antispin diff like the brochure says it has?" ... We'll see (Edit : The brochure snippet below also says it has 'premium power mirrors' but this particular Big Horn has the huge tow mirrors, which can be adjusted via power, but they are not power folding - so, there's an option that overrides the brochure). Regardless of whatever the answer ends up being, I love my truck. She's a beauty - no regrets. Cheers!

Sounds like you’re in a pretty good situation. My 2023 ram 1500 sport is a night edition.
My previous truck had 17’s but some heavier duty suspension (2017ram outdoorsman). The more rubber on your wheel the smoother the ride supposedly. I’m not sure why you would have found some hesitation in the rebel. That’s strange.
You may get a bit better fuel mileage over the rebel because you won’t have that 1” lift.
Enjoy your truck with it’s new e-locker.😁

Doesn’t the off road option add the tow mirrors?

So, check this out - it turns out there is an E Locker rear axle

I drove the Rebel yesterday, while they had me bring in the Big Horn so they could do an RO, and they discovered that it does actually have the E Locker, but just didn't have the button, so they replaced the shifter area, and sure enough, magic :

LOL...that's funny! The line must have been short the locker control panels so they just installed a non-locking version. Might be why it didn't have the cost next to it because it was "incomplete". These parts shortages are getting nuts. Seems like the exceptions to the rules they suffered during covid has become the norm. Great deal for you though. FCA probably would have put up a fight if they had to replace a whole rearend, but it sounds like the dealer had your back
