Hi Tim,
Hope this finds you and family well. I am a long time watcher and reader of your content. I currently own a 2023 Silverado, Baby Duramax, lT Trail Boss. I love the truck, and the engine is fantastic. I bought the vehicle new at a local Charlotte, NC dealership. I traded in a 2021 Ford f 150 Hybrid Limited. The Ford had consistent issues and spent a lot of time in the shop. Hence the swap to Chevy which I had great luck owning numerous Tahaoe, Surburban, and in total 7 different GM products over the last 25 years between my wife and I.

Fast forward to August of 2024. Check engine light appeared, dealership checked the code and diagnosed the problem. Part number 40009158, Engine coolant flow control valve needed to be replaced. The part was on a national back order, and 79 days later I am still waiting for the part! I have been moved to the highest level of client service, and nothing can be shared other than they are expediting the part to the dealership. After speaking with the service manager at the dealership he told me they have 27 cars on his lot that have been waiting for parts from GM for more than 30 days, and 1 vehicle that has been waiting for a part since Jan of 2024! My hope is you could do.a story or a vlog, after some research, describing the issues GM is having honoring their warranties! They certainly do not have an issue selling the vehicles (taking your money), but they are not honoring the warranty. I have filed a report with the NC AG, but nothing has moved GM to help my situation. From what I can tell based on my online research there is a huge number valve control parts failing, and I have been caught up in this mess. I dont understand why this is not being covered given the lack of support from GM. Once again I reference the conversation with the service manager when he shared with me that this is the biggest hot button issue for dealerships when they meet with GM (LACK OF SUPPORT FROM GM servicing the customer).

At first I was given a rental from Hertz, Ford Edge, which is fine, but certainly not comparable to the vehicle I purchased, and am paying for today. Then after 65 days they switched me to a silverado through the dealership rental program (This dealership does not have loaners!), and have recently switched me to another Silverado as they said my rental agreement expired on the first Silverado (and we got word that the part was delayed, again). As you can imagine I have spent countless hours swapping cars, standing in lines at Hertz, and I feel like GM could care less. Anyway, off my soapbox. If you want to hear more, or cover in more detail let me know. Keep up the good work as I really do enjoy the channel.

Best,

Brian Parrish

If auto makers would only get back to making old fashion reliable parts that do the job, the manufacturer will say its for emissions or some other BS but an old fashioned thermostat takes about 15 minutes to replace and you are on your way.

How about this for a new rule, if you are paying for a new vehicle and its sitting waiting for parts the manufacturer has to pay the monthly payment maybe that would get them off their a**

Old fashion reliable parts? Tell that to my ‘62 C-10. 😂 it always needs parts since the old ones break so often.

I replied back to him to point out the supply chain is still an issue. On the 23 Silverado and now the 25 Ram RHO I had to ax certain features because the parts weren’t available.

New vehicles are breaking pretty often too it seems, one thing is certain if the thermostat on my 85 Chevy C10 or even my 2004 Silverado needs replaced its 15 minute job and a $20 part.

The LM2 utilized a three-way coolant valve whereas the LZ0 has a 2-way coolant valve. GM has had some failure issues with the 3-way valve but haven’t seen a lot of issues with the 2-way valve. I wonder if Brian’s engine is an LM2 or LZ0?
2023 should be a LZ0.

The old clunkers I owned in the late 80’s to early 90’s (built in the 70’s) had lots of parts available … especially used parts from so many in the junk yard. Not to mention the rust problems (75 Mercury comet, 77 Mercury Monarch 80 Mazda GLC). Some of the problems of course made worse by me doing the work and learning at the same time. Nothing like carrying a full set of tools all the time because your car has that many problems.

I carry a small tool box in my ‘62 C10. You just never know when I’ll need to fix something on the fly.

Yes, I always carry some basic tools even with my new truck. I bring an extra tool box whenever I tow (or go to the cottage) because you never know what you could run in to.

I feel bad for Brian and any other owners dealing with this type of issue. It’s enough to turn you off of a manufacturer. I would expect it on an entirely new model or a significant refresh. As you’ve mentioned Tim. There is always a time delay for replacement parts available on new models or anything changed on an existing design.

Crap situation for everyone.
