How automakers calculate GVWR and curb weight

How the hell can they factor in people in the GVWR but not payload!!!!!! This makes no sense at all. At the same time it could explain some of the differences we have been seeing over the years where if you weight your truck and do GVWR - the actual weight of your truck, you usually find some...

GM, Allison Renew Brand Partnership: 2026 GM HD Trucks with Allison Badging Returns

Is the GM transmission fix for all trucks? I thought diesel and HD trucks were still waiting on a final fix.

What used truck buying research do you do?

Rust! And then general condition of the truck, accident. I then look at the use points like the bed, hitch, tie downs to see if the truck was used as a truck and how. Also try to flip up or flip down all of the back seat since it’s an area that people and dealers forget to clean and that can...

GM, Allison Renew Brand Partnership: 2026 GM HD Trucks with Allison Badging Returns

Yeah the car guy online trying to call you out was lame. Of course nobody has the data, but brand reputation accounts for a lot of sale and I don't see a company like Allison risking it unless the amount of money offered was ridiculous. It's easy to be a hater...

EPA Moves to Force Engine Makers to Fix Notoriously Faulty Diesel DEF Systems, Citing Major Savings for Farmers

I'm hoping we will see a curve pointing towards more reliability, but diesel engine is the one area where it seems the reliability actually went down. Everybody I knew had Diesel engines in the 90s and 2000s and drove them till the body would literally fall off from the rust. Now, nobody...

EPA Moves to Force Engine Makers to Fix Notoriously Faulty Diesel DEF Systems, Citing Major Savings for Farmers

I’m more curious about the data itself than the rest. Hopefully they will make it public.

GM 3.0L Duramax diesel known problem in the cold with no fix

The thing about not plugging it in below 18f makes no sense. Let people plug in their truck at any temperature below freezing. Like what’s the downside, the engine and oil are up to temp faster?!

Is early transfer case replacement a sign of an overworked engine?

It could also be from improper use like using it on dry grippy terrain all the time while making sharp turns or making the truck slide in snow or ice and suddenly you get traction.

Modern Truck Tailgates Compared: Useful Innovation or Just a Gimmick?

Even simple tailgates are getting complicated. I need to unplug 3 different harness when removing the tailgate on my Tundra. But from all the fancy tailgates, I would choose the Ram splitgate. Easier access to the bed, can bring a forklift closer and if you want to climb up, you don’t need a...

Compact Hyundai Santa Cruz Dead? Replaced by Future Midsize Truck

Turbocharged, Four-Cylinder New Truck Sales Are On Fire! Is the Internet Wrong On These Trucks?

They also can’t be that bad or else fleet would switch to something else. Downtime for us is an inconvenience, downtime for fleets is a lot of money left on the table.

GM 6.2L V8 Engine Issues Worsen: Post Remedy Engine Failures Lead to ODI Recall Query

It’s time to be pedantic about semantic, they said should and not that it was. I still agree about the hybrids not being included being bullshit and that the warranty on the replace engine is only a year/12 000 miles. We will know when Toyota has truly fixed it when they will give a proper...

GM 6.2L V8 Engine Issues Worsen: Post Remedy Engine Failures Lead to ODI Recall Query

Thanks for the report, I think it's one of the reasons why Toyota is not saying much and not rushing to say it's fixed. Having your engine failed is bad, having you engine keep failing after you say it's fixed is worse.

Ram Quality Problems Explained by CEO and Self-Inflicted Mistake, Why the 100k Mile Warranty Matters

Wow the warranty matters a whole lot more than I thought. That’s a lot of people switching brand over a warranty. The sales number this year will be telling on if the strategy is worth it or not.

2026 Nissan Frontier vs Ford Ranger

My transmission was always under warranty, but it sucked losing my truck for a week or two at a minimum every year. They also had so many trucks in the shop that the dealer would frequently run out of loaners and Ford refused to pay for a rented car.
