What’s one truck maintenance issue you wish you had caught earlier?

I’m curious what other truck owners have experienced with maintenance. Have you ever had a small warning sign, unusual noise, fluid leak, or dashboard light that you ignored and later turned into a bigger repair? What did you learn from it, and what would you recommend other truck owners check regularly?

Paint. Here in Florida it peeled like a bad sunburn.

I did my best to fix it but after two years my truck looked like something out of Sanford and son. And rust still kept coming back. They wanted $10,000 to fix it. I traded it in for another truck.

Rust protection. I actually needed my frame welded on my 2011. It's the main reason I chose to replace it this year. Mechanically sound but the rust is getting out of hand.

2023 Tundra, and the one I wish I'd caught earlier was my own naive faith in the delivery checklist. Picked it up looking flawless, then at 3k miles noticed the bed rails had already started chipping where the dealer "carefully" loaded my gear. Tiny nicks I waved off as nothing, now I'm the guy who babywipes his truck on weekends.

Real advice though: don't sleep on the small stuff. Torque-check the running gear after the first few thousand miles, and do your own cabin air filter (dealer wanted $90 to swap a $12 part). The little things you wave off are exactly the things that become the $10k story later.
