Funny story, I changed the transmission fluid in my 2009 Tacoma at about 15k miles because I drained that instead of the oil. I quickly learned how to pump tranny fluid into a sealed transmission. I can admit that lol. I bought the Tacoma with 11 or 12k miles on it and had decided I was going to teach myself how to change oil as I wanted to do it at home. Nobody had ever taught me. The Tacoma has a transmission drain plug that looks exactly like an oil drain plug and it's about where you would expect it to be for oil. Except it came out red. That created a long night and a little bit of panic.
That mistake helped me discover the TacomaWorld forums where I was quickly helped and they let me know if happened all the time in those trucks. Been a member ever since lol.
Edit: My dad refused to let us change the oil growing up because "It made a mess and it's so cheap to have a jiffy lube place do it" I think they were typically $19.99 to $24.99. Very different from the $100+ oil change now.
