Used truck on the channel

Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying a 2023 F-150 EcoBoost Tremor with over 50k on it.

This brought up an interesting question for myself, as a business owner and journalist, as to if you’d be ok seeing a used truck on the channel?

My thinking is: I want to do more comparison video and comparisons with the EcoBoost vs Hurricane and others.

Since the EcoBoost remains Ford’s most popular engine and the Tremor is a more attainable trim than others like the RHO or Raptor, etc..

Thoughts?

I would not do it. This is a big expense and I'm not sure how much content you will be able to get out of it. It's not that I'm opposed to used truck content, but I can find 100000000000000000000000 videos on them from all type of folks.

Can't you do the comparison with a press truck? It would be a lot of work in one week to do all the testing and filming but at least you don't have a truck sitting in your driveway the other 51 weeks of the year that you can't make content on. It would help if you standardise your testing, that way the comparison video are always relevant and we can go back in years. It's one of the great things about the ike gauntlet, it's always in the same location with roughly the same weight and trailer for a class of truck. It seems like you already trying to standardise your testing with the camper you have, keep it up!

I wouldn't be interested. Now, if you gathered up a handful of used trucks and did a "how are they wearing" compared to eachother... I can see value in that.

The issue is the RHO is not working as a comparison vehicle. If I had the Ford, I could do comparisons on the next two trucks I'm getting as well as videos on mods. Just a bridge gap before I buy the new Silverado. RHO isn't creating any new content.

So tough to get good comparisons from something like that since they are still pretty far apart. Someone would always throw that in your face. Maybe if after the RHO you got two used trucks from different brands of mid-tier like an XLT and a Big Horn then compared those two on price, cost of ownership, and overall capabilities.

Yeah, I was looking at a Ford F-150 Tremor. Much more comparable, then do comparisons on various trucks. The Ford F-150 would be used, but I don't know if that matters which is why I started this discussion.

I don't want to buy new since it has been covered a zillion times. Buying used seems like better route until I buy the new Silverado.

I just don't want to wait XX months shooting no new comparison content because I'm waiting for the Silverado. That is just bad business IMO.

Let me see if I am reading this right. You are thinking of getting a 2023 Ford Tremor to use as a "filler" until you get a Silverado; Then you will add to your video volume by doing comparison videos between the two.

I get the need for a filler. You gotta create content. There is a need for quality information on used pickups as that's what most people buy. The question is how are you approaching the subject? TheDo114 is right in the fact that everybody and their grandmother is doing reviews of used cars. (Some way better than others.) Besides your personality and familiarity among the subscribers, which should never be underestimated, what are you bringing to the table that hasn't been said before? As Zack Pradel has shown, any used vehicle basically becomes "custom" by the use and care it had by its previous owner. Rattles, cosmetics, and performance will all be affected. With that in mind, you can bring up items that don't get highlighted under the usual review. What are the common things that go wrong? How much does that part cost at the time of the review? How well has the design and tech aged? Is the rise in cost for the new justified over the price of the used? These are just some of the questions that come to mind for me in making a different kind of used truck video.

Just my two cents.

I see. You'd use the Tremor to compare to other press trucks. Not a terrible idea as the Ford is still current, it's a choice anyone shopping new would have. And when you get the Silverado, it'll be the long-time rivalry of current Ford vs latest Chevy.

Yuo. Sorry my brain skips ahead at times. That’s what I’m thinking.

Do you have any video ideas? I just enjoying driving the truck and my creativity tends to draw a blank.

Well, everyone tends to say, "Why don't they make them like they used to?". Maybe compare what your old Chevy's capabilities and features are to your RHO? Could it still be a daily driver? Can it tow? Where would it fall expressed in today's dollars for value? Tradesman? Big Horn? Obviously, the ride quality and lack of comfort features will be night/day, but how far back do we want to go when we say, "If they only made a simple no-frills truck."
