Split the difference, get the 3/4 ton, but air down the tires until you need max payload/towing. Run the tires at 55-60 and your teeth will be very happy.
I was able to borrow my dad’s F250 Tremor with the 7.3L Godzilla engine for a month last year while my truck was getting fixed and yeah, even aired down to 40-45, it was still very rough. The roads around where I live are frequently recognized as some of the worst in North America lol. I also averaged 8-12 mpg over that month depending on what I was doing.I feel like the ride in even unladen 3/4 tons has come so far in the last decade. Both my dad's GMC 2500 and my buddies F250 definitely are stiffer but I'm surprised at how much closer it is to the ride of a half ton versus 3/4 tons of the past.
It was awesome while loaded and I towed 14-15000 lbs with it easily, but it was just too much of a compromise. If the 2500 ZR2/AT4X were cheaper, I would probably be in one right now. The ride was so much better than any HD truck I’ve driven, except the power wagon, and they look badass enough for me to overlook the rest of the downsides.
