For several years, an ongoing battle over Right to Repair laws have been a hot topic and now Maine is set to be the second state to finalize its bill meanwhile a new bill for Congress could end the fight. It does seem the biggest argument against right-to-repair is privacy concerns. OEM shops are somehow going to be somehow much safer for consumers' private data than independent shops. I find that rather hard to believe. The OEM response is to not "turn-on" the telematics devices in the states with that law. So, it appears if you do not want any data from your car being released to anyone, those are the states to buy from.
 
Apple is the one that started the closed repair idea, now it looks like the auto OEM's thought it was a good idea also, Apple has gotten a massive push back and it looks like the auto OEM's are getting the same push back, Apple tried to use fear as a deterrence, Im sure the auto OEM's will do the same.
