Just finished wrapping up a 5 things to know story about the new Slate Truck. I love the DIY nature and, get this, hand-crank windows!! Is this too basic, or is it a truck that truck guys would buy? Would love your thoughts. I, personally, am very intrigued.

And I'm not. LOL. I think this affordable truck already exists with the Ford Maverick. I'm already seeing comparison articles. I think it will generate some interest and then come to market in limited amounts with another shiny object distracting customers.

I’m marginally intrigued at the concept. It’s not what I would need but I wonder if this would be a good fit for mobile shop guys etc. they wouldn’t necessarily want the crew cab and would want the extra bed space with a security cap for tools like for locksmiths etc.
My main skepticism will be on the price point. The whole reason automakers don’t make vehicles more customizable is to keep the price down.
For your regular consumer it may be a tough sell to get any significant numbers. But, who knows, maybe there’s a market out there of younger buyers who want to customize like this? All it takes is one variant of this to look exceptionally good and it could take off.

I reserved one.

The problem with the Maverick is its a crew cab, I think many people are tired of having crew cabs foisted on them, me included.

I get that. Imagine if Ford took the Mav, stripped it of infotainment and electronics, made it an ext cab but same length so the bed could be longer. Priced in the mid $20K. With the hybrid AWD? Sold....

This is an article better served a couple of months before launch. I agree with Tim. too many EV startups have come, made promises, needed $$$ injections and then disappeared.

If it makes it to market. Not interested. EV doesn't work for the masses and the Maverick already exists. Demand isn't there...terrible time to try starting an EV truck company.

I just remembered something,, I heard Ford is working on a crash program of making an electric Maverick, I wonder if Ford caught wind of Slate motors cheap truck and did an oh sh*t and a head slap.
