On the way down to Dodge City, I had about an hour and half call with a listener of the podcast. Just a random encounter through a YouTube comment that turned into an email then a phone call. Frankly, I don't spend any effort on the podcast and I was curious his thoughts. He had not seen a single YouTube video and found the outlet through the Spotify podcast app. A complete 180 for me on how I think people find the outlet.

Long story short, this really got my head spinning. I also re-enabled the Patreon page and he is now the first member. I'm also ordering 2x3 stickers for water bottles. He's 30 and from a different generation. Really gave me some ideas on how to grow the podcast.

It also got me thinking that I really could be more structured in how I do things. This would really help my work/life balance as well. I tend to publish a long-form YouTube video each day, a website post and a short-form YT video. I'm finding that doesn't really work to be honest. The views on YT are down and I just think there is some fatigue there to be honest. Short-form videos and podcasts. Now, there seems to be some growth opportunity there. Plus, I could get back to writing more, do better research on some things and produce better long-form videos if I slowed down the amount of videos I publish.

So... ahem... brain trust assemble. What do you think? Are you watching a lot of YouTube these days or less? Would you think if I published a more consistent schedule that would be better with the obvious breaking news item here or there being the exception?

I voted catch up on the weekends, but it's not always the weekend, occasionally throw something on during the week. There's a podcast I watch on YT every Monday, then Vice Grip Garage every Sat morning. Other videos I want to watch are typically throughout the weekend, sometimes none sometimes 2-3.

I watch a lot of YouTube because there's nothing on TV but I have to say that my channels are shifting lately.

I still watch a lot here and love the insanity of Car-ish, but other shows like Professor of Rock, Sarah-N-Tuned, Trekculture are fading.

One day a couple years ago I was scrolling YouTube and watched a short of Sarah N tuned, my son walked in and said oh that's that guy that's a gal now. I thought he was joking and it blew my mind...

I told my brother in law about that rumor and we didn't find any definitive proof, just rumor and innuendo (possible fake videos).

Not that I care. The restorations are killer and the wiring work is intimidating as all hell.

Typing what I watch tonight. (In the background is Star Trek Original series - Balance of Terror)

Pickup Truck and SUV Talk - short of the GMC Canyon AT4X
All Terrain Nation - RAM truck 2026 updates
Waypoint Survival - Horace Kephart's 1919 belt rig
TrekCulture - 10 things you didn't know about Wolf 359
Doodle on a motorcycle - From Crash to Sturgis
Alyssa Matesic - I warn authors not to do this.

I was sitting next to Dave as he filmed that. I can't believe he filmed it all on his phone, uploaded it during the next press conference on Jeep Cherokee AND made the thumbnail on his phone as well. By the time the Jeep press conference was done, about 10 times later, the video was done and live. Really impressive IMO.

Balance of Terror… classic….

I’m retired so I have time to watch YouTube videos in the mornings. I’m watching more videos than I normally would being home more due to some family issues.

I answered 3+ at the top. I probably watch about 10 per day unless I’m doing some home Renos here or at the cottage.
Always watch list:
Pickup truck and suv talk (first click)
Truck King
Motormouth (questions coffee and cars segment)
Throttle house
Straight pipes

Sometimes watch:
Shawn pilot (corvette guy but only puts a vid out about once every three months)
C-tech reviews
Gettys garage
Artificial cheese (ai enhanced comedy of a stormtrooper).
HistoryMarche

Too much time on my hands lately. A lot of Canadian sites I know…lol
I find my watching evolves away from some channels if they get to click bait oriented or if they get too deep in the weeds in one line of opinion. TFL for example I barely watch anymore.

I do find sometimes the videos that last more than 15 minutes take multiple sessions to get through due to interruptions or just my wandering attention span.

Do you watch shorts?

I’ve just started watching shorts. Some interesting content there. I don’t really look at TikTok or instagram. But I’m in the minority there.
I’m cross posting on all the platforms. I’ve started doing a lot more of them and I’m finding a whole new audience. Mainly new viewers or people who just want a quick answer. Tough from a journalist POV to always provide the whole answer in 3 minutes though.

Varies greatly but I mostly watch YT for research, less for entertainment. I tend to watch shorts the most for entertainment, long format for info. And the shorts are not from info type providers like Tim's or TFL. Those seem to be more of a preview for a long format video.

Yesterday my long form video choices were my Sunday travel shows.

Tiny Nomad is up in Alaska with her Four Runner.
Hannah Lee Duggan just bought an older Land Rover Defender in Africa.
Kyle Huck Finn drove around New England in a 62 Valiant
Marie camped in her 80's Ford F-250.
