I sold my 78 Dodge d150 and rode an Indian bagger for 4+ years while saving for a new truck. Despite all the horror stories about the new Chevy 1500 Silverados, I still bought a black 25 RST 5.3 10a with all options except sunroof and that fold out step tailgate. I just really liked the look and drove a couple before choosing. Also drove a 2020 2500 LTZ with the big diesel (it had sensor issues & 158k miles).

I figure by being anal about break-in and maintenance I just might get lucky.

What are your thoughts about driving in L9 99% of the time? I’m retired and I pretty much drive locally every day for a grand total of 3000 miles a year.
No heavy towing at all. Honestly I haven’t noticed any issues while driving as the factory intended with auto stop and DFM on but I’ld like to avoid that lifter issue.

Any insights are greatly appreciated!

I spent way too many hours researching theories on avoiding lifter issues. Just like the hemi, there's no sure fire way. Many people who deactivated DFM still had lifter issues. Same with guys who drove in L9 and followed strict oil change procedures.

Many more 5.3s are affected than the 6.2 with lifter issues as a % and I don't remember who but an engineer had a theory that the reason for that was because 6.2s typically get driven harder and that doing so kept things cleaner and didn't allow for the lifter failure. I bought the 6.2 because it's fun and sounds amazing... So I drive it. Not hard by any means but I'm also far from grandpa'ing it around.

I ran the Pulsar LT for about a year but had one too many issues and took it out about 6 months ago.

Welcome to the site!

I wish I could help you with the L9 but I really don't know. Like you though, I am very strict on maintenance. I do believe that it keeps my truck running better and lasting longer.

Thanks for the picture. You have a good truck there. Commuting should be a breeze for it.
