Hello Everyone! My name is John Elkin, I am a freelance automotive journalist, author and historian specializing in the sport of off-road racing. I have authored two books about off-road racing history (Broncos and Jeeps), and I freelance for a wide variety of websites.
I grew up in Southern California mostly exploring the deserts in the family International Scout II, Death Valley was our usual happy place. Although we could also be found in Joshua Tree and Ocotillo Wells.
A chance encounter with Mickey Thompson introduced me to the sport of off-road racing, and eventually I would do freelance work for his Entertainment Group., SCORE International and a handful of magazines. I raced, recreationally off-roaded, did rally events as both a driver and navigator.
I'm very happy to be here and am looking forward to being a apart of this awesome community.
