DEF for the Diesel Walmart VS Truck stop

Tim, i have driven a big truck since 2009 and back when the big trucks started to go to the DEF because of BIG GOV, we would have to go into the truck stop and buy the box of def and it was $$. i have watched a lot of your videos on your diesel and you and others would go to wal mart to buy the def. my question is this 2 parts 1, did you fill up your truck at a truck stop and use the def at the pump that cost around $2.99 a gallon. or 2, buy at the gas station and go inside to buy the def? im still up in the air but leaning hard towards the AT4 diesel and alwasy thought i would keep filling up at the truck stop and use the def at the pump and save big time in the cost of DEF

I would say get a commercial card and fill at cardlocks , and keep your def above 1/4 . Save the waste and hassle, of cardboard and plastic .

I had a lot of people tell me to just buy it from the truck stop and that sounds like the best approach since you are there buying diesel, often, anyway. However, I never did find it at any stop I went to on road trips. Now, keep in mind, I can be a bit picky where I stop and I want a nice station not a dump. I also didn't love parking next to big rigs to fill up the tank and that was probably the key reason why I never found it. I don't know why. Just felt weird to be filling up my truck next to a semi.

I bought DEF from Walmart and from gas stations in jugs.

Frankly, I think DEF is one of the big things I learned about after owning the truck. What did I learn? DEF really is isn't that big of a deal. I treated it like adding windshield wiper fluid. It was just one of those things the truck needed, so I added it. Also, when I wasn't towing, I could go for weeks and not think about it. I know that is going to piss off a lot of people who hate DEF, but it is the truth. Besides towing, I couldn't see what all the fuss was about. Much ado about nothing.

So for me it doesn’t matter whatever the expiration or manufacturer’s date is I don’t know how the vendor stored it. I’ve seen some stores with stacks of boxes of DEF sitting in the directly in the sun. The refractometer cost about $20 and for me it’s well worth the investment knowing that the DEF is good.

that makes since see me who has fueled up there for years and its like second nature i wouldnt have a problem fueling at truck stops. i know in a big turck i would get DEF everyother fill up. whats good to know is just normal driving the DEF will last a long time
