This reminds me of all the videos I see of those lifted trucks with 24" low profile tires stuck on wet grass.

I also wish you were willing to write like this about the big 3 when they deserve it. Throw Toyota in to make it 4. Your disdain for Musk/Tesla is clear, I don't really understand it if I'm honest.

I don’t thinks it’s a disdain towards musk or Tesla itself, it’s against the cybertruck specifically. It’s such a bad products in a lot of way and it warrants the ridicule it’s getting. People are making fun of a factory truck, not a truck that has been brodozered and then can’t do anything, it comes this way from the factory and is awful at truck stuff.

I don't want to put words in Tim's mouth but as a regular consumer of his content for a few years, I don't think he likes Musk very much. I would challenge the not very good at truck stuff comment. I guess it just depends on what that means for an individual. TFL used their cybertruck quite a bit for truck stuff and I thought it did pretty well. Very good payload, towing (considering range) etc. Like the EV Hummer they had it's too heavy for "serious" off-roading but the "normal" consumer of trucks wouldn't rate that very high on their list of needs honestly. Hell, most jeeps on the road never see anything more than a gravel road. Don't get me started on the overland leave my tent on top of my truck for 12 months out of the year people.

It's ugly as sin and they've had some issues no doubt but I still think it's pretty impressive for a manufacturer who only makes cars to jump into the truck world. Read the horror stories about the first few years of Rivian trucks/suv's. They seem to be learning and getting better but they have several years on the Cybertruck. The Hummer also had massive issues... just ask TFL.

Yeah, but like debated ad-nauseum on TFL, it’s more of a great passenger vehicle than a truck. The payload is great, but the shape of the bed makes it really impractical at loading stuff, the towing ability is on par for the class, but the recharge is slow when the battery is being heavily used, more so than its competitors. It claims to be able to go off-road, but it’s the worst electric truck off-road that makes that claim. The visibility out of it is awful when trailering and let’s not get into the rear hitch debacle with multiple reported failures outside of the whistling diesel video.

It’s just not a great truck, but does it matter? Like you said, most consumers that buy trucks, never use a truck for what a truck can do, so it does not matter to them how it performs like a truck. We can poke fun at it, but it’s still the best selling electric truck out of the bunch.

I’m not surprised it’s not getting much love from a truck forum, we are enthusiast and use our trucks as such. The general public couldn’t care less of what we think and it always shows in sales at the end of the day.

As for the Tesla reference, I'll take the criticism. Frankly, it is probably valid. I've driven and/or been in plenty of Tesla models. They have all sucked. And Elon's press conference calling out truck guys for being idiots was just insulting. So, sorry, no love lost there. I don't take a stand very often, but I'll take a stand here and say this outlet will not talk highly of the Cybertruck unless there are significant changes.

I'll probably beating a dead horse here but I would really thoroughly enjoy reading an article where you actually take one of the big four manufacturers, or just one of their vehicles, to task with anywhere near the same level of gusto as in this article.

Tesla fans love for the brand boils down to three things:

1. They love not having to buy from a dealership.
2. They love getting service by pushing a button on their app.
3. They love the tech nature of the vehicle.

The vehicles themselves aren't well built and they aren't that great. Kyle Conner (Out of Spec studios) and many other EV journos and owners and myself have had many conversations about them. I've also driven many of them. It really boils down to the bonus things Tesla gives you that people love about them, not necessarily about the vehicles.

My issue with Elon comes from the Tesla Cybertruck press conference. It was an attack on truck culture. I was fuming at the end of it.

I can see your POV with the name on the articles. If I could figure out how to get IT to fix that issue, trust me I would. I don't need my name on every damn thing! LOL

You caught me! I am not terribly impressed with Elon, his ugly and useless truck, nor his overpriced, marketing-driven companies. That said, I can recognize good design, well-built vehicles and smart business decisions even when they come from companies/individuals that I personally find unpleasant. Luckily, neither Tesla nor Elon has done anything (yet) to make me say I was wrong. Someday! Perhaps!

Until then, consider me a hater if you must. But a hater who is objectively correct in this case!

I can't get hi-speed internet at my house, even though I'm only about 35 miles away from Seattle. Luckily, Starlink gives it to me at a better price than I was paying before for 25mb dsl that use to require constant hardware resets.

I could talk about Space X and what they've achieved, or that Tesla is the most valuable automotive company in the world when the others had, I don't know, a 100 year head start?

But I get it, he's not for everyone and the cyber truck is ugly as hell.

Without a doubt a great innovator. Just like his brother-of-another mother Bezos. I worked quite a bit with both Tesla and Space X. Good company and good people. But almost every time Elon's name came up in private settings, they often rolled their eyes and said "uh, yeah, sure". I always found that funny. We got some their business doing "services", but they just turned to doing it themselves like they often do. It was common in our business with "new" companies. Old companies like Lockheed, Raytheon, etc. were the exact opposite.

Yep. In the Tesla offices, no one had an actual office. They said it was so everyone could hear what everyone else was working on and provide input if they could help. That was about 8-10 years ago in Palo Alto, so I have no idea what they are doing now in TX.
