Congrats on Your New Ram Tim

Insurance is such a variable...You live in a mostly rural area and Jill is in Chicago, so pretty easy, right, every facet of her location/use is more expensive. But your repair cost can be higher and "Preferred Provider" shops may not be available like in Chicago.

It's a crapshoot in so many ways.

We are playing with an idea to have the business insurance separate than the house. From online reviews, it seems Geico is a better overall insurance company. Hard to say right now.

I get tagged in a social media post like once every 6 months about truck height. There were a variety of stories a couple years ago about the massive size of the grilles and overall height.

What I say is automakers have been working on this for several years. CAFE rules judging vehicles by footprint (2011), consumer demand for taller cab height, the push for massive towing numbers all resulted in a larger truck. Automakers then added parking sensors, cameras (front and rear that turn on in low speed situations), pedestrian detection systems, etc... to address those issues on seeing over the hood. New trucks and SUVs are also changing up how the hood is shaped to allow people to see over them better. Check out the Lexus GX video coming out next week for a pretty unique hood design.

The problem then is people still want to rely on their own eyeballs OR they have a truck without all the safety features. That's the problem IMO. If owners would use the cameras and trust the sensors, IF they have them, then this issue goes away.

I could see NHTSA making those safety features mandatory in the future which would make things safer as well as make vehicles more expensive. Automakers don't just absorb the cost of these features.

I think it is getting a lot of HOLY COW attention from uniformed journalists right now and it will go away eventually.

Jill, starting at timestamp 3:52, addresses how she would have to boost herself up beyond the driver seat's highest setting to operate the Silverado and it would be a no go for her...It appears in Chevy's case the hood are not being shaped for easier visibility, but continuing on with the extra scoops and bulges that put a shorter driver in a precarious position when trying to drive. No amount of cameras can fix a poor view outside the windshield.

Oh yeh! I completely forgot about the auto-high beams. Those are great. I drove a Ram Longhorn for 2 years and got spoiled by those. The funny part, I never use high-beams otherwise when I should. Auto wipers I hated though, came on way too much.
Just need a few close calls with deer on the road (or actually hit one) and you appreciate how much high beams actually help.

That’s an interesting point on the cameras. I’m thinking next time she’s got a big truck, I’ll have her focus on just the cameras and visibility.

Good Idea, it's a great perspective Jill provides concerning shorter drivers, but having a street truck with all the power on vice an auto show demo will help:

Me thinks the GM adjustable pedal explanation is similar to Ram's concerning the dial shifter, i.e. covering cost cutting.

BTW, both my 900s have adjustable pedals.
