Choosing the Right Workshop Service Repair Manual

Hello everyone.

I’m trying to understand how to choose the correct workshop service repair manual for my vehicle or equipment. There seem to be factory manuals, aftermarket manuals, and digital versions, and I’m unsure which one provides the most accurate repair instructions.

Do professionals prefer OEM manuals over third-party ones? Also, how important are wiring diagrams and torque specifications when doing home repairs? I want something detailed enough for maintenance and troubleshooting but not overly complex for beginners.

What features should I look for before purchasing a workshop service repair manual, and are online subscriptions better than printed manuals?

thanks in advance for any help

I'm no professional at all but when I got bought my 2011 Ranger I bought both the Hayes and Chilton manuals.

I will say that I found myself using YouTube as a manual over the books though.
