On August 11, 2025, Ford CEO Jim Farley is expected to announce a new Ford midsize EV pickup as part of a “Model T” moment. Will it be enough to save their struggling EV business? Ford “Model T” moment The story in Autonews.com says the announcement will be centered around a new battery plant in Marshall, Michigan. This plant is slated to open next year with a $3 billion investment promising 1,700 jobs when fully ramped up and will be the first EV battery plant to use lithium iron phosphate chemistry, known as LFP, at industrial scale. LFP batteries are […] (read full article...)

Anything’s possible, but I think we’ve seen limited and narrow interest in electric trucks due to their many limitations. Maverick would have been awesome price wise but greedy dealers just added 15-20k markups ruining Ford’s best selling point, a cheap basic pickup-ish vehicle. If they hit the price mark, it could be great…if dealers don’t take advantage.

EV trucks will always have the stigma of not being able to tow over a long range. Regardless of whether the owners actually own a trailer or ever plan to tow. Not sure how they'll beat that until battery density increases. I know a local guy who just wanted to tow a boat to the lake and only got 75 miles doing that with his Lightening. Their best hope is the Ramcharger hybrid style until the public becomes more acceptable of the EV drivetrains.

It is funny you mention that. I'm supposed to get a Sierra EV AT4 on Tuesday. My only thought was to see if it had a hitch and tow the camper. That's really the only thing I think people really want to see anymore with EV trucks.

This was the current press fleet list I got from one of the two Denver press fleets. You tell me which ones you'd take:

Year
Make
Model
2025
FordMach-E GT
2025
ChevroletBlazer EV SS AWD
2026
ChevroletSilverado EV Trail Boss Max Range
2026
GMCSierra EV AT4 Max Range
2025
KiaEV6 GT-LINE AWD (EV6 Long Range AWD 20in Tire)
2025
Mercedes-BenzG580W4E

That Sierra EV is the only one with some legs but they're still pretty short ones.

One thing I found interesting with the video below was that weight of the trailer had little to no effect on efficiency. The wind resistance dragged the efficiency down much more than weight. And if you home charge, those miles were a third the cost of an ICE.

Rough line up to choose from, either the at4 or the trail boss. Drag race them against your RHO and hook up a trailer to it. Maybe try it out in a field off-road and see if it could work for around a ranch or something like that?

The Ford event was a big stinker, no vehicle was even shown.
So, I'm trying to write up the news, but ... there's literally no images on the Ford media website. Just some boring historical video and a few gif images. I've emailed Ford and asked for literally a single photo. Ford's media website has changed in the past few months to be more influencer friendly and it is has been a HOT topic of conversation within the media. I may, again "may" have had a few things to say and my name may have been said a few/a lot times around corporate HQ.

What a cluster F.

So, are you saying their media website needs a .......recall or two? Huh, imagine that.
