AVATAR REPLACEMENT PHOTO

I have been trying to upload a photo from my iPhone library to replace the standard Avatar but keep getting “Oops something went wrong…” message. I have performed this operation on other forums without any issues. Any suggestions?

For Mac - I right clicked on a jpeg, selected "Quick Actions", selected "Convert Image", then hit the drop down for "Image Size" and selected "Small".
