The 2025 Toyota 4Runner TrailHunter is loaded with the cool factor and turns heads all around town, but is it worth $70k? For 2025, Toyota has delivered—and in Trailhunter trim, the 4Runner is aimed squarely at adventure seekers who want factory-backed overlanding capability. Priced at $69,598 as tested, the Trailhunter brings a hybrid powertrain, rugged styling, and clever features built for life off the beaten path. I hear you on the price. I bought a 22 TRD OR 4Runner new during the pandemic at msrp $47k. Yes, the new powertrain, especially with the hybrid is objectively a better driving experience, however, the mix of inflation and new model cost increase makes the 1958 LC a better option. Especially since you can usually find them with a few thousand off. All wheel drive and hybrid for less than 55 makes the 4Runner a difficult choice in all but base model form.

That’s a solid write-up! The new 2025 Toyota 4Runner Trailhunter definitely looks like Toyota listened to enthusiasts. The factory-backed overlanding gear, hybrid setup, and rugged touches make it stand out compared to the older 4Runner. That said, at around $70k, it’s competing with some very capable rigs like the Wrangler Rubicon 392, Bronco Raptor, and even some entry-level luxury off-road SUVs. If you’re someone who values Toyota’s proven reliability and wants a turn-key adventure build without aftermarket hassle, it feels worth it. But if price-to-performance is your main priority, there are alternatives that give more power or luxury for the same money.
