Got this email today and I'm going to need some time to think this one over. What do you think:

Tim,

Thanks for the OUTSTANDING job you do on the video’s, and all the research time you put in to help us ( general public ) make a more informed decision, your information in invaluable to me.

I have been contemplating a new truck for months now, struggling with every make, model and manufacturer trying to decide which one to buy. I have been a Ford guy most of my life and

In 2013 turned into a Ram fan, currently I am driving a 2020 Ram Laramie with a 5.7L hemi ( no E-torque ) and would like to trade up to something with a little more off road capabilities, but still have a daily driver. I have watched countless hours of videos and read every conceivable publication and gotten down to the 2025 Ram Rebel with the new 300 twin turbo 6 or the 2024 Ford Tremor 5L Coyote. Nearly identical prices and options, except I can get the RamBox on the Rebel.

Would appreciate your input as you have driven both, unfortunately driving them at the dealership is really not enough time driving to really make a good decision.

Any help or thoughts you might have would be greatly appreciated.

The person writing to you Tim should still go sit in each truck and then buy the one that he thinks about the most.

Everybody seems to have reservations about the new 3L in the RAM, but Ford is having so many transmissions issues that to me the reliability point is kinda moot.

But I'm still curious, Tim, what are your thoughts on the two models? To me the tremor has a higher payload, better bed, better fuel economy when towing and more intuitive interior layout. The rebel has a nicer feeling interior, better looks, ram boxes (if you like them, I don't, they take way to much space) and can be had with air suspension if that's your thing.

So I slept on this last night and didn't answer right away. I find I'm doing that more and more lately to really think it through. Plus I had dry needling on my neck and right shoulder, so I wasn't really able to type. Nor did I want to with the pain. Much better today.

Back on the subject.

Here is my response:

First, thank YOU for watching. Viewers make the channel happen and without you I would just be a crazy dude talking at a camera. Although, that latter part is likely pretty accurate.

Second, you have a good debate on your hands. Those are both solid trucks each with their list of good and bad things. I've been a big fan of the Tremor and I love the styling of the Rebel.

I think it might be easier to break down things into a list like this:

- Engine

The Hurricane is a new-ish motor. It has been used in SUVs, but, as a forum user pointed out, it is new to trucks. The use case for trucks is different than a large SUV. Think more towing and hauling in the bed.

The 5.0L V8 Coyote has been around for decades. I do find there are some problems with it and adding cylinder deactivation a few years ago has only fueled fears of those issues.

Ok, enough about any issues that may creep up.

If I were to drive them back to back, there's no doubt the Hurricane is going to feel like a rocket ship compared to the 5.0L V8. If you watched my quick drag race of the Hemi vs the Hurricane, there's really no contest. I also really like the balanced feel of the Hurricane.

I think the winner here is Ram.

- Transmission

Easy winner here is Ram. Why? Ford's 10-speed transmission still has a lot to prove in my book. Maybe because I've been spending a lot more time online on various forums and talking with customers who have issues with the transmission, my view is biased. It just makes me nervous.

We are doing a video today on our Ford Ranger and one of the issues my wife has discovered is the transmission shifting in that truck as well. Ford needs to go back to the drawing board on transmissions IMO.

- Style

I love the styling of the Tremor. For me it just looks great and I love the orange accents. I really can't explain it.

For the Rebel, I've never really cared for the grille. On the 2025 model, I think it is improved. I still don't love it. Again, can't explain it.

Then, you get inside the cabin. As much as I like Fords, there's no contest here. Ram has the best interior designers in the automotive market IMO.

Overall, for both interior and exterior I have to go with the Ram.

- Capability

Both are solid trucks in terms of off-road gear. I think for 90% of the buying public, they both have everything you need for playing in the dirt. What's interesting is how they ride with all that equipment.

For daily driving, I've found the Ford rides more like a car while the Ram rides more like a truck. I prefer a truck ride myself and one of things I noticed with the Ford I bought was I got bored with driving it. Personal preference for sure.

Additional features like zone lighting on the Ford or Ram boxes are going to be personal preference. I'm also a big fan of the power on board Ford offers, but you don't get all the power offered in the 5.0L since it isn't the Powerboost model.

I'd say capability is a toss up.

To recap, Ram wins on styling and transmission. Engine reliability is a toss up as well as capability.

If it were me, I'd go with the Ram.

Which is funny because you can in the Ram. I was surprised to see the 2.4kw inverter option on the Ram for 2025. Even a V6 Big Horn can have that added. It was one of the features that pushed me back that way from the mid-sized. Granted, the Powerboost can go 7kw but 2.4kw is pretty damn handy.

By "all the power" I was referring to the 7.2kW. BTW, the 2.4kW setup for the Ram is still delayed. I just checked on that two weeks ago or so after a viewer emailed me.

Both the 2025 Ram Rebel and the 2024 Ford Tremor are great choices, each with their own strengths. The Rebel's new 300 twin turbo is exciting, especially if you’re leaning towards more off-road capability. The Ford Tremor, with the 5L Coyote, is also known for its ruggedness and performance.

If off roading is a big priority, the Rebel’s suspension and features might edge out the Tremor. However, the Ford’s powertrain and the Tremor package could offer a more balanced daily driver experience with plenty of towing capabilities.

I’d say, if you can, try to get a longer test drive or maybe look for off roading videos that compare the two. Either way, you’re getting a beast of a truck
