The second-generation Nissan Frontier debuted in North America for the 2005 model year. Known internally as the D40, it stayed in production through 2021. The third-generation Frontier arrived for 2022, but its engine had already debuted in the outgoing truck. Three engines span these two generations. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder and 4.0-liter V-6 were offered through 2019.
