How the bad happens

I decided to watch a comparison review of two vehicles with roughly the same mileage and were the same model year. The reviewers did the usual talk and dance of features and specs before the obligatory test drive. Unfortunately, one vehicle had a catastrophic failure under regular acceleration. They take about five minutes to reset the camera and then start to complain about how this is common with the brand and that they know, personally, of multiple people who have had the same problem and that there was no way they could recommend the vehicle dur to these circumstances.

Immediately the pile-on happened in the comments. Damnations and curses of the unlucky brand with the figurative "nodding of heads" in the replies.

The first thing that came to mind for me was how amateurish the reviewers are. If they had been professional, they would have contacted the company and notified them of the event, the damage that occurred, and let them know they would hold the video for a few days so preliminary research could be done to see what happened and caused the problem. Followed by the statement that they would be doing a follow up video on the results of the examination or the lack of contact thereof.

As a manufacturer, I'd be very leery of lending anything to them due to this video.

I don’t know about you, but anymore I’ll see a title or thumbnail and click on the video only to get to the comments right away. Seems weird, but I want to see the first several comments. If the comments are all pilling on or pointing to flaws in the video, I skip the video. I’m not sure why I do it, but I find myself doing it more often.

That's hilarious, I've been finding myself doing the exact same thing and it's a little bit out of a lack of time. I can jump into the comments see the first few and get a jist for what the video is about and the angle they're taking.

I like this approach. Mine is that if their thumbnail includes a shocked or overly expresive face shot I'm taking a hard pass.

The clickbait titles just piss me off. The whole "Don't buy this....." title then it gets a stellar review is the worst. At the end, they finish with "Don't buy this....unless you want the best there is."

I know, it's a business and creators are trying to get the clicks and keep you on long enough for it to count as a "view", but it's annoying. Tim, I know there are rumors of 7 secs, but do you know how long it takes for it to count as a view in YT's world?

Glad to see I'm not the only one that does this! I will say it depends on the comments, if it's about things like trucks are not affordable anymore or reliable, it doesn't affect me, but if it's pointing at all the wrong information conveyed in a video, then I skip the video.
