So have you heard - GMC HDMI exhaust tips.

I was on r/gmcsierra and we were discussing how the HDMI exhaust tips on the 1500 are not actually attached to the exhaust. Someone mentioned, that atleast on the 3.0L, this serves a purpose other than cosmetics. According to the poster the gap between the exhaust and the tip creates a venturi effect which pulls air along the pipe, helping keep temps in check during a regen. Sounds plausible. Any thoughts.

Huh. I have a Yukon coming next week. I see I’ll need to get my butt on the ground and see if they are attached or not. Thanks Reddit!

The HDMI looking parts are just trim pieces attached to the rear bumper. The end of the rear exhaust pipes are actually round and don’t come in contact with the HDMI trim stock. If I didn’t have this damn respiratory grunge that’s going around I would take some photos but don’t feel up to it.
Oh I’m not feeling it either at the moment/day/month…

That makes sense. I thought the bigger reason was heat dissipation. Mixing cooler air with hotter exhaust gases before it exits. Wasn't that the reason they started using those vented tips on the big Duramax back in the mid-2000's? Something about paint being melted off trailer hitches during regen or something? Sounds like Tim needs to email an engineer.
