Crappy @#$%ing parts

2004 Chevy Silverado, My heater blower motor stopped working and I look at the connector to the resistor that was replaced in 2023 and the connector is literally red hot on the black wire and the insulation is melted, lucky my truck did not catch fire. Now I need a new resistor and connector.

Sorry to hear that. Interestingly, Getty just did a video on why he thinks so many issues are arising with new trucks. Two of the things he pointed at:

1) So much plastic in engines nowadays

&

2) The gauge in wiring, and connectors, has been reduced dramatically in recent years.

Among many other issues. It's a good watch.

I think Getty needs to interview an old mechanic and compare contrast number of serious problems per 100k miles. Personally, I know a lot of old mechanics who drive new trucks and love how much more reliable they are these days. All about perspective imo.

I like Getty’s vids but his list of problems with new engines seemed a little too much like preaching to the choir.
IMHO a lot of his observations sounded like they were taken directly from negative comments on all new car videos.
I’m sure that’s not the case but it seemed too familiar. I guess I’d like some empirical evidence.

I guess it depends on what you consider a problem because Ford's recall rate says otherwise.

Fords recalls are annoying for sure. Half or better of them are software related. I’d take that over rebuilding engine blocks at 100k.

I think there needs to be recall tier,
1: The vehicle is going to explode and burn to the ground
2: The engine is going to throw a rod through the block, or transmission is going to grenade.
3: The vehicles infotainment is wonky but the vehicle is still drivable.
4: The vehicle has a missing safety sticker saying not to drink the coolant or windshield washer fluid.
My 2006 Nissan has a recall for a center emblem on the steering wheel, I am not driving a 300 mile round trip to get it replaced.

Lots of software recalls are for pretty major issues and lots are for minor items. Either way, a recall is a reliability issue imo.

And if he made that video everyone would scream that he "sold out to the man!". Shoulda been a parts guy...

Because it's soooo obvious today's vehicles are absolute crap...
