Does anyone else ... not care about the Hemi return?

My YouTube feed is flooded with videos about the Hemi. I mean c'mon, that engine is over 20 years old? Why do I want to watch someone drive a 2023 RAM?

I just saw Tim's YT short, totally agree.
FINALLY! We agree on something. J/K. LOL

I have 3 different trim level walk around videos I've been editing that are uploaded and I'm uploading a 4Runner video. I plan on scheduling them out one by one and not killing the channel with Ram content. The Hemi's return is something, but man the media at the event thought that was THE deal. I completely ignored it the "driving" impressions of it.

Ram PR reminded us the Hemi driving impressions were under embargo until today. I about spit out my drink. I figure that embargo'd information ended about 15 years ago.

I gotta say, having the Hemi back doesn't get me excited. It's just there.
People got all excited there were 10,000 orders placed as PROOF customers wanted it. BS. Dealers placed those orders. Those dealers want everything. They want lots filled with all sorts of different trucks because they pay peanuts to have them on the lots each month and they don't want to turn away any customers. I swear people have no clue on how the automotive industry actually works.

Im happy it's back. I own a 23 with the hemi and it has been great no complaints. But I'm hopeful it will sell more Hurricanes and get RAM sales back on track. Now people have choices and if you drive both back to back it's hard to not choose the more powerful option. Then maybe we get the Octane Cummins? 👀

Yeah that was a big womp womp for me when they announced it back. 10000 reservations is not a lot, even for Tundra standard and they sell the least in the class.

But hey, you can now get your hemi tick and cracking manifold in the brand new 2026 edition 😂

Then maybe we get the Octane Cummins? 👀
I’m honestly lost on the thinking about the Octane Cummins. I see that in the comments at times in videos and here on the forum. Cummins said publicly it isn’t for 2500 or 3500 trucks. Plus, Ram would have to kill the 6.4L Hemi to make room for the Octane Cummins. That’s just not to happen.

How do you see it?

The main problem I see with the Octane is the weight. As for the benefits, in 1989 when the 12 valve Cummins released its main competition was the 454 and 460 gas v8's. Those were great but not nearly as good work horse engines as the 12 valve was. I think the Octane would out work the Godzilla and 6.6 gaser in the same way.

I meant to add on the 6.4 hemi... I think they should keep it around, it is competitive with the Ford and Chevy v8's and would be outstanding as the cheaper engine option to the more expensive Cummins offerings.

Interesting rumor flying around about the Hemi coming back:

Kineskis demanded it come back regardless of how difficult it was to get it to work with the new electrical architecture. This is the main reason why it costs more than the SO I6 upgrade. Of course, we'll never know until he writes his memoirs.....

The thing is it is not just the engine. Each Hemi truck comes with the upgraded exhaust. If you think about it, they are likely losing money with just the upcharge. They should be charging more especially after spending a literal boat-load of money shipping them to New Zealand and renting out a facility for months to do winter testing. I'm hearing that, by itself, cost millions.

I’m not a Dodge fan. I have too many friends who’ve been stranded by their RAM in all forms. Most never went back after their experiences. That said, the RAM market is broader than my handful of friends so I’m sure many people enjoyed their experiences and are brand loyal. I like that any v8 is making a comeback, but they shouldn’t have been forced off the market by political agendas in the first place. Manufacturers are inventive folks and I’m sure they can keep making better and cleaner engines given the opportunity. Overall, i think this is good for everyone.

I’m on my 3rd Hemi and I had the smaller dodge v8 in a Dakota b4 that(zero problems no hemi tick). I’m not a hemi fan boy. Each ram purchase was preceeded by a lot of research and cross shopping. Every time I would save enough on the ram purchase to make it a no brainer.
I hope the availability of the HEMI helps generate more sales. More sales = more new product development.
That being said, If I was in the market today I would probably go for the hurricane. I value performance over sound. I would cross shop other brands like I always do.
Asking for an upcharge for a v8 is nothing new. Before the Hurricane engine the hemi was an upcharge from the penastar.
Ford and gm charge more for their V8 options as well.
I think the bigger news for RAM is that they seem to be offering more “affordable” options than before.
I have watched some of the new YouTube videos just to see the new trim and price offerings. The 2026 configuration for ram is not available in Canada yet.
We’ll see what the take rate is on the hemi.

Same here. I would even consider the V6 as an option considering I'm only towing 4k now.
I would want the higher horsepower of the hurricane SO over the pentastar. I’ve owned too many vehicles that were underpowered. Just a thing for me. That being said I wouldn’t pay for a limited just to get the HO. In 2023 I cross shopped the 6.4 from GM against the HEMI getting the lowest trim that met my minimum requirements and a few like to haves.

Sure, but the modern Pentastar is damn close to the old 4.7L V8 in that regard so plenty of HP/TQ for me.

You are absolutely right. I had that 4.7L in my 02 Dakota ext cab. Great power plant. I meant to say GM 6.2 v8 above.
We owned two pentastar v6 engines in the past in my wife’s grand cherokees and they always performed well.
As I said it’s more of a higher hp chase without overspending for me. I kinda buy what I want rather than one step down for just what I need. I always have but I went a trim higher with my last purchase for some extra trimmings. I guess I fell into the trap.
