Hello,
I recently bought a 2024 Chevy 2500 Duramax and I am trying to decide which oil I would like to use in it. The manual says to use 15w40 unless it is below 0 degrees and then use 5w40. Where I live it can get that cold but it doesn't happen often. Winters usually stay above 0 with maybe a few days of the low going below 0 and then the summer is usually in the upper 90's going into low 100's sometimes. I was wondering if it would be ok to use 5w40 all year round or only in the winter since it says only if its below 0 degrees in the manual? Or since it doesn't get that cold more than a couple times a year am I better off staying with the 15w40? If I can stay with one oil year round I would probably use Mobil Delvac Extreme 15w40 or Mobil Delvac1 ESP 5w40. They have different additive packages though and I don't like the idea of switching back and forth. If I need to switch seasonally between 15w40 and 5w40 I would probably go with Delo 400 XSP since it has the same additive package in both. Either way I go I would like to stick with a synthetic or full synthetic.
