In recent weeks, there’s been growing confusion on a large recall impacting several GM vehicles. The confusion is over the GM 6.2-liter V-8 recall oil type with people pointing to new documents suggesting GM is flip flopping on what oil type to use. GM 6.2-liter V-8 recall Before we get to the clarification, the recall and stop sale was first announced on April 24, 2025 and dates matter. Here is the official NHTSA.gov information: NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 Manufacturer: General Motors, LLC Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING Potential Number of Units Affected: 597,571 Summary General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling […] (read full article...)

Good job on the coverage, I stopped following the recall because of all the conflicting information, this summarizes it nicely.

A supplier Issue is NOT AN EXCUSE. GM Is responsible for the final quality inspection. The Boeing door blow-out incident was ALSO a supplier issue, does that mean Boeing is off the hook and can just blame the supplier? NO. GM RIGHTFULLY takes all the blame for the 6.2 clusterf*ck as well as all the lifter issues.

And Tim it's not your job to be GMs PR team, they are the ones that screwed up and they are the ones that have to turn things around in the eyes of customers.

To be honest, most of the confusion appears to be coming from social media sources. Sure, some simply report the facts like you did but others stretch it out into "what-ifs" and "my interpretation". You get different stories from each one. The NHTSA website isn't the most helpful either. They post all the docs, but they don't bother sorting or explaining what each is for, or which one supersedes another. The more this is thrown out and discussed ad nauseum, the fuzzier the picture becomes.
