Free truck - What are you picking?

Lots of new trucks the last couple of years... if the money wasn't yours and you had to buy a truck, what are you choosing?

Mid-Size
Half Ton
Heavy duty

For me it breaks down like this:

Mid-size is probably a dead heat between the GMC Canyon AT4X (Not the bison) and the Tacoma Trail Hunter. The Raptor I think is still the best deal but the idea of dessert or speed doesn't really matter to me. I couldn't use this for towing my trailer so it's purely play.

Half ton has to be the GMC AT4X with the 3.0 diesel, I just think the mix of what it offers with that engine is hard to beat.

Full size is tough... really a toss up between an F250 Platinum Tremor or the GMC 2500 AT4X. I would be happy with either but I may lean towards the more reliable engine which I think right now is the Duramax, purely a probably biased opinion.

If the money was not coming from me, I’d make the following choices:

Midsize- Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-road with a manual transmission. (Had to edit after realizing that the TRD OR was the best trim available with a manual.
Half ton- Ford F-150 Tremor with 5.0 V8.
Heavy Duty- Ford F-250 Lariat with 6.7 PS. I’d consider the new 2025 Ram 2500 with the ZF transmission but ideally would like to wait some time to avoid teething issues if necessary.

Interesting choices all (including the classic Dodge).
Midsize I would probably go Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter
Full size: Ram Rebel … I only encounter light off road terrain …. I’d love an RHO but it wouldn’t fit in my garage and would be a high step for some shorter/older people that have to get into my truck.
HD: I really don’t need a truck this big (once again garage size). It would be a toss up between the GMC 2500 and the Ram 2500 depending on seat comfort.

Here are my picks:

Dream trucks. Somebody else is also paying for maintenance, fuel, insurance, etc.

Midsize: Ford Ranger Raptor. It the best at pretty much everything and it's extremely easy to upgrade the tire size if that's your wish.
Full size: Ford Raptor R. The only remaining supercharge V8 experience. Ram RHO would be a close second.
HD: GMC 2500 AT4X AEV Edition with the diesel. It's just so beautiful. The engine and transmission are smooth and the IFS is nice.

Reasonable trucks. I'm stuck with paying for maintenance, fuel, insurance, etc. but not the truck itself

Midsize: Ford Ranger Raptor. Fuel economy is bad compare to other midsize truck, but it's still reasonable.
Full size: Toyota Tundra 1974 edition TRD Off-road non hybrid crew max with the long bed. Close second being a GMC Sierra AT4 crew cab long bed with the 3.0 diesel. Diesel is unfortunately up to $1.89/L ( $5/gallon at the exchange rate or $7.1/gallon if no exchange rate )
HD: GMC 2500 AT4X AEV Edition with the gas engine. Same reason as above but with the lower maintenance cost of a gas engine and also the lower price of gas vs fuel. The fuel economy difference is not enough to justify the 45% increase between gasoline and diesel here.

That Raptor R is a beast and high on my list, I just want the MPG of the 3.0 with the slower trail running which is what I mostly do off-road.

Man a 3.0 diesel in a actual raptor figther would be awesome. All the plush of the suspension and economy of the 3.0 diesel. If GM could get their head out of their ass and give us a bigger fuel tank, it would be the king of trucks.

Mid-size - Probably the Trail Hunter. All that and a long bed. GMC AT4 would be a runner-up
Full-size - Gotta try the RamCharger. It's just too intriguing not to. The GMC Denali EV would be a runner-up.
An HD? - A MegaCab 3500, and a dually version, just because...
