We don't. Simple.Hey Tim/Jill, how do you guys handle your vehicle insurance for all those test vehicles that you drive, especially for the ones that you test for a week? Just curious.
You might want some insurance to cover what the automakers don't. I don't have any insurance to cover damages to my vehicles. Since they are paid off, I don't legally have to have it. I did increase the liability since the incremental cost was minimal. We don't. Simple.
Automakers have insurance on the vehicles. I've heard of a few journalists who purchase personal protection policies on themselves. I'm not remembering exactly what they call it. I don't. Just seems like wasted money.
Like what? I have car insurance for my other vehicles and personal injury protection. Why would I buy another policy for my business? You might want some insurance to cover what the automakers don't. It's been several years since I looked into it, but I increased all my coverage limits per person and per accident since the cost wasn't much difference. I mostly drove a company vehicle back then. Turns out the company I worked for only carried the minimum they were required. I think it was something like $25k per person and $50k per occurrence if memory serves me correctly. I just looked at what I carry now and it's $100k per person and $300K per occurrence. I figured back then that if I had more people in the truck with me $50K would not go too far, so that's why I increased it.Like what? I'm checking with the fleet office to see if they know the insurance coverages.I have no idea what the automakers carry on their limits for press vehicles, but it would not surprise me if it's the bare minimum.
