Advice on Off Road Package

I’m looking for help from experienced members. I am ready to purchase a Ram Tungsten. I’d like to add the Off Road Package. I have no intentions of going off road but I like the features- skid plates protection, heavy duty shocks. I feel it can only be an asset driving around areas with bad roads and unforeseen hazards. My main concern is will I sacrifice my ride with this package? Is it the tires that make the ride harsher? Can I forgo the Off Road Tires and go with the all seasons? Or will the heavy duty shocks and lifted ride affect the comfort? I sincerely appreciate any advice.

Hey Larry,

Off-road packages are often a good idea for the things you mention and especially the skid plates. The shocks are more off-road focused and not really heavy-duty.

Ride comfort will be better without that equipment, but how much? I think that’s your main question. Yes, you can swap tires around and that will help. Personally, I don’t mind a little rougher ride.

Keep in mind with the skid plates, that is really just adding protection from bottoming out on rocks. Your engine and undercarriage is already pretty well protected for everyday driving and bad roads.

I think the best thing you can do to deal with rough paved roads is to fit the smallest rim you can to your truck, and the tire with the highest/biggest sidewalls. This will protect your rim and give you a spongy feel over the potholes.
