2008 Ram 3500 gasser vs. 2010 F350 Diesel

I have been pulling trailers a lot and decided it was time to move from the Tacoma to a big-boy truck. I got a good deal on a 2010 F350-100k miles, 6.4 L deleted - but after driving it for a month I foolishly went to look at a 2008 Ram 3500 that got me thinking. The Ram is a gas dually, 75k miles, V8 Hemi with a brand new flatbed and manual transmission. I like the flatbed a lot and driving manual- so it is a big draw. I spend a fair amount of time pulling 2-3 horse trailers on dirt road and highway, nothing super heavy. I think I could sell the Ford for a couple grand more than the Ram is listed for, and end with a little money in my pocket, but I am mechanically ignorant, and would appreciate any opinions on comparison between the trucks.

Being a Ram guy.....I'd choose the Ford. I think the longevity of the diesel would be better for you. Plus, the '08 was the last year they put the 5.7L in the Ram HDs. For a gasser, I'd want the 6.4L. otherwise, I'd just get a 2500. The flatbed and manual are nice so if those are that important, go Ram.

If the 6.4 is still running, get rid of it as fast as you can. It's a horrible engine and once things start to go bad, you can't fix them. They are basically throw away engines. Don't take my word for it, just do a bit of research on the 6.4 diesel and you will find out how bad they are.

Nothing wrong with the 5.7L per say, just a bit too small in a 3500. I'd want a little more "oomph" in my 1-ton. And a year later they did with the 6.4L.
