    GM Seats

I just drove my 2006 Chevy 2500 about 70 miles today and thought about how comfortable these older style seats are. Then I get home and Tim’s got a video about the new Sierra Denali and he talks about how crappy its seats are now. Check out the padding on these old seats in my Chevy.

Portable power and generator from Jackery

I watched a Linus Tech Tips video where he talked about getting his channel hacked by clicking a link from a sponsor email. He runs a computer channel, so even the savvy folks are susceptible. I found it. Here’s the video.

    3rd Gen Engine Failures

Just watched Tim’s update video with info from nhtsa site on how Toyota investigated and made their recall decision. Great info. Go check it out if you haven’t already.

It's been several years since I looked into it, but I increased all my coverage limits per person and per accident since the cost wasn't much difference. I mostly drove a company vehicle back then. Turns out the company I worked for only carried the minimum they were required. I think it was...

You might want some insurance to cover what the automakers don't. I don't have any insurance to cover damages to my vehicles. Since they are paid off, I don't legally have to have it. I did increase the liability since the incremental cost was minimal.

    3rd Gen Engine Failures

It might not be a design flaw that would be picked up during testing. The clearances on these engines are so tight now that just one machine slightly out of tolerance could screw things up. They use 0w-20 oil for a reason. The tolerances are roughly 10x tighter than they were a few decades ago...

Time for new to me truck

If turning radius is really important to you, I would suggest driving the previous generation Tundra to see how you like it. I have a 2018 and was surprised at how tight it turns. If you are worried about salt, you probably should look into an undercoat like Fluid Film. I watch a channel called...

    3rd Gen Engine Failures

I don't know about that. This problem is different than just about any other we've seen. The failure is so catastrophic, random, and extremely expensive that I can't think of anything like it. I think the worst part is they seem to happen at random mileage with no warning. It's not like you can...

    Toyota crash test cheating

It's very difficult to maintain control in such a large company. All it takes is a very small number of people willing to comprise on quality or ethical standards and the whole company looks bad. I used to have several hundred people working under me (almost all indirectly) and I know how...

    Hurricane engine has no dipstick

We used to take oil samples from the dipstick tube for analysis. Did it mainly for large equipment, but also on pickups and other light vehicles. Sent them to the CAT dealers for analysis. We had a small tube with a syringe like device to collect the sample. There's really no other practical way...

TFL Denver 100 MPG Loop New Ram Rebel, AT4X, Tremor

Do you run premium fuel in your 6.2 truck? I think they had a 10.7-11.5 compression ratio. High compression engines tend to be more efficient. That GM 2.7 turbo is only a 10.0 compression ratio. The turbo's offset that a little with boost, but still about 10% or more less compression when not...

TFL Denver 100 MPG Loop New Ram Rebel, AT4X, Tremor

It doesn’t really surprise me. I had a lot of inconsistent mpg out of the ecoboost trucks I’ve driven over the years. Sometimes I could baby it on a trip and still get crap mpg. I suspect this new turbo engine is also finicky. When I drove an F150 work truck with a 5.0, it always was more...

    3rd Gen Engine Failures

I seem to have a faint memory of a similar recall in the past. I don't remember which manufacturer it was though. I suspect contamination in these engines with extremely tight tolerances is really bad for oil flow. Combine that with the higher stresses on a small displacement turbo engine and...

    Hurricane engine has no dipstick

I suspect it's a cost savings thing. They have oil level sensors and most people don't check their oil or much less change it themselves. I prefer to have a dipstick though.

Thoughts on over the air updates

I don't know about that. I have a truck with an infotainment screen and an old one that doesn't. The screen can be slightly more distracting. Not anywhere near as bad as looking down at a phone though. I think the best things in regard to safety improvements is rumble strips and radar...

Thoughts on over the air updates

I haven't watched a lot of Louis Rossmann videos, but I just now watched this one regarding user data in vehicles. He's quite blunt and doesn't hold back his opinion. The topic is about someone in Singapore having their car data used against them. However, he later goes on to talk about a judge...

    Nissan Murano bursts into flames

https://www.foxnews.com/us/maryland-familys-suv-bursts-flames-they-slept-video-shows-terrified I haven’t heard about vehicles spontaneously combusting in a while. The part that jumps out to me in this article is Nissan won’t be able to come to their house for 6 to 8 weeks. So these people are...

The 3.4L V6 issue..too much torque in a small package?

I'm not impressed with the Tundra's for many, many reasons. I don't think he needs to bash TFL or the other guys though. I've heard Andre talk about problems quite a bit. Also, TFL wasn't afraid to point out flaws with Subarus. He should just stick to the facts in the video.

The 3.4L V6 issue..too much torque in a small package?

Interesting video. Obviously something isn't working as well as it should on these new engines. It will be interesting to see what Toyota comes up with as to the root cause of the failures. I have some hunches but that's about it right now.

    Calling for hail tonight

We just got some hail almost golf ball sized. Just my luck I have both trucks at the house where the garage is full of junk right now.
