Aftermarket parts, dealerships and voiding warranties

My understanding is that the Global B platform is locked down much more firmly than Global B and setting that were available to the dealership are no longer available. Not sure if Pulsar has broken the encryption or just found a way to get around it. It is interesting though how some...

Aftermarket parts, dealerships and voiding warranties

Possibly. I might not have been clear in my post but the service associates point was that GM might void my warranty, not the dealership. While there are laws that allow us to modify vehicles, laws are open to interpretation, which is why we have courts. Going to court to contest GM’s decision...

Aftermarket parts, dealerships and voiding warranties

Mine is more permanently mounted to the driver side pillar. I could remove it but it would be a hassle. If it’s an easy removal you may want to do so, but you may also have a dealer that’s not going to see it as an issue. I’ll be taking the truck back to the dealer in a few months for the free...

    Ask the Toyota Engineers, Tim

I once responded to a forum thread that I trust the judgement of the engineers who designed the engine far more than the collective knowledge of random dudes on Reddit. Shortly after someone responded, “My brother in law, knows a guy, who used to work with those engineers, and can confirm they...

Aftermarket parts, dealerships and voiding warranties

Got a CEL on my 3 month old AT4 yesterday. I pinged OnStar and they let me know my truck was throwing a P2297 fault which I confirmed with my Banks iDash. According to the iDash it's an O2 sensor fault, but my understanding is that diesels don’t have O2 sensors and it’s likely associated with...

The 12 pack of Diet Dr Pepper should be an industry standard of measure.

What did you do with your truck today?

Just watched @Beninbeta video on the Kuat Ibex. I’m going to retire in a few years and one of my ambitions is to set my AT4 up for overlanding and hit the road for a couple of months. I’ll be keeping this system in mind and very interested in hearing more of Ben’s experiences with the set up.

GM sharing Smart Driver data with insurance companies.

Going to pull this one back up again as I recently received some more information. For those that were unaware GM was sharing the Smart Driver data with Verisk as well as Lexis Nexis. I have received my report from both companies and there are some differences in the way data is being reported...

    review mirror camera

I like having the camera on the CHSML, lets me keep an eye on what’s in the bed of the truck.

A fond farewell to the forum

Almost fired back on “AT4X rides like a dump truck” but thought better just leave it alone. My understanding was that DSSV on road performance was actually pretty plush.

    2024 Toyota 4Runner (Leak)

There’s a post on r/overlanding that the payload on the next gen 4Runner Trailhunter is only 895 lbs. possible those numbers are incorrect, if not someone or something may get left behind.

1 truck the next 10 years?

Bought a 1500 AT4 3.0L in January. My plan is that it’s mine for the next 10 years. Not towing at present but may grab a small overland camper when I retire in a few years. I doubt that I’ll go over 6K so the half ton will be enough.

Finally Got a Chance to Detail the Taco

Great video. I’ve been doing my own detailing but haven’t progressed as far as ceramic or graphine coating. For someone who’s never done it before would you recommend trying the graphine first or jump right into the ceramic.

Tim's Wife With Great Thoughts on the KIA EV9

Agreed, Heather expressed concerns that anyone considering an EV should be asking themselves. I recently caught a video on Steve Lehtos channel that brought up another concern that I haven’t even considered. One of the benefits of owning an EV is not having to purchase fuel. As the number of...

    Coil over ride quality

Was talking to one of the local 4x4 shops and he advised me against the Eibach or Bilstein route, saying that while they are an upgrade to the Ranchos, in his opinion they are not enough of an upgrade that he feels it’s worth the investment. His opinion is go big or go home and his...

    Fitness journey

Had some lower back pain last year that got pretty bad. MRI did not show anything but the Doctor still suggested Physical Therapy. The first 6 weeks didn’t see much progress but the second 6 weeks worked wonders. I got swapped around between 3 different PT’s. I don’t know if my gains in the last...

    Coil over ride quality

Purchased a 24 AT4 3.0L is January and have been very happy with the truck except for the Rancho shocks. I’m not at the point where I’m pulling the trigger on swapping them out ,but I am looking into what my options will be. I’m currently thinking either Eibach Stage 2’s or Bilstein 6112/5160’s...

What did you do with your truck today?

Round 2. Some improvement by scoring the red area between coats but still a bit ragged. Not so noticeable at a distance but up close the edges are not as clean in the red inserts. Good enough for now but I’ll likely just order some black and red AT4 emblems to replace the stock emblems.

What did you do with your truck today?

A somewhat successful attempt to black out the tailgate emblems on my AT4 using Hyperdip. The GMC and Sierra emblems came out OK but I’m not having much luck with the 4 on the AT4. I pull off too much of the hyper dip when exposing the red in the 4. Tried twice today, I’ve had enough, will try...
