A new Toyota compact pickup was teased by the company with a single image. Is the Ford Maverick fighter Toyota fans have been hoping for? The single image, released by Toyota, shows what appears to be a truck bed lined with LED lights and a truck’s cabin. With the recently redone Toyota Tacoma setting sales records and a new Toyota Tundra refresh not due out until 2028, this means it isn’t likely to be one of those trucks. What could it be? It could very well be the long rumored return of the Toyota Stout nameplate or another name for […] (read full article...)

As much as I want this to be a truck, I think it’s an electric suv, likely the an EV Highlander. I’m attaching a photo that was shared about a year ago

I am not sure this is a pickup, if it is that's a strange place to put rear lights on top of the tailgate, I would smash the sh*t out of those lights, if it's a pickup, loading Lumber or an ATV, my ramps would shatter those lights.

The profile is 100% pickup truck from this angle. The cabin lines drop sharply at the cab rear and the rear window is very small due to it being further away than the rear of the truck (the bed).

Pretty mixed. I’m hearing SUV or truck. Sometimes I look at it and I see Highlander EV. Sometimes I see compact truck.

If it’s a Highlander EV, I couldn’t imagine worse timing for a U.S. launch.

This is going to be interesting if Toyota really enters the compact truck segment to compete with the Maverick. There’s definitely growing demand for smaller pickups that still offer practical utility, good fuel economy, and customization options.

If Toyota launches this right, the aftermarket for accessories like tonneau covers, bed racks, and cargo management is going to grow fast. Brands like Bison already have a strong presence in the truck bed cover space, so it’ll be exciting to see what fitment options become available for this platform in the future.

The compact truck market is getting more competitive every year, and that’s great news for truck owners.
