Even as gas prices rise and automakers continue pushing smaller turbocharged engines for better fuel economy, many truck buyers want V8 engines for one simple reason: reliability. Yes, I want one too…and yet, I put an oem front air dam on my trd off road Tacoma and it’s netted me +2.5mpg….I think wanting good mpg and wanting big v8 power just aren’t mutually exclusive thoughts in my mind. I’m ok with the dissonance.
 
Well yeah. My old V8 gets 12mpg around town and a newer V8 gets 17mpg around my town. A 5mpg increase is quite the savings. And a turbo 6 doesn't increase it much more.
