A new study from iSeeCars is putting hard numbers behind something many truck and SUV buyers have already noticed: Ford recalls are a big problem. So much so it leads the industry by close to 5 times as many and has recalled 20 million in just the past year. Analyzing decades of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data, the study found Ford vehicles are recalled far more frequently than competitors, making it the worst-performing automaker overall for recall rates. The gap isn’t small. While the industry median sits at roughly 3 to 4 recalls over a vehicle’s lifetime, several Ford […] (read full article...)

The numbers really are crazy. One of the oddest things in the business. And I get the argument that "At least they identify the issue and fix it" but it still, It's the constant visits to the dealer that sours it for me. Especially when you find out parts are not available.
It sure seems to add up to a lot of dealer visits. Not my favourite place to be.

You know what's really crazy to me is the responses.

So, I do a video on Jim Farley getting a pay raise. Every comment is all about the recalls. There is NO WAY he could get a raise due to the number of recalls Ford has. That's UNBELIEVABLE!

Then, I do a video and story on how many recalls per vehicle it is and how the number is 20 million in one year. The comments are now defending Ford. I had one guy on TikTok tell me "I needed to understand these recalls are for small items."

So, which is it. Are people pissed off the number of recalls or are they not? I don't understand it.

It's really odd, personally I don't feel like they get taken to task enough but maybe that's just me. Ford, the dealers and some journalists write these recalls off as not a big deal because they're for "small items." Then some of the awards companies don't hold the recalls against Ford becuase it's not a "reliability" issue.

I wonder how many of these people have gone through a recall process with a vehicle for anything other than a software update.

It’s why I got rid of my Ranger and why I was not seriously considering a F150 to replace it with. I was ok with their F250 since my dad has one and he was not in often, but then last year he had to go in 6 times to get recall stuff done.

That’s wayyyyy too much time at the dearlership for “small things”.

I think Tim's compro video between Ford and Ram.
Shh... you are a member and getting early access. LOL. It is a full week of truck comparisons.

I had to redo the Ford vs Chevy thanks to a edit flub and it ran this morning. I found the flub after skimming the comments. A person was mad because the video was "behind a paywall." I'm like be mad. It is how YouTube wants to do things. What's that sayin'? Don't hate the player, hate the game.
