Imagine buying a new GM truck or SUV and using an OnStar cabin temperature feature only to discover one day it is mysteriously gone? That’s exactly what has happened to thousands of owners and they are not happy. What is going on? I received an email from a frustrated owner who thought he was going crazy getting nowhere with his local dealership and OnStar customer service. He swore he had this feature and he used it. However, nobody would confirm it actually existed! Here’s his email: “Hello, so I am not finding some information and you may not know either. […] (read full article...)

A clarifying question, when you say remote start but it involves OnStar I assume then you're talking about the ability to start the vehicle through the app?

I asked this because my truck does this if I start it using the key fob, what I've always called, possibly incorrectly, remote start. But I believe that's how it's called out in the GM infotainment software options.

Starting your vehicle using the app usually comes for a limited time free through OnStar. I think mine was either 6 months or a year. When that runs out you have to pay for the subscription.

So if we're talking about the app controlled start it sounds like for some reason some people were given access to that longer than they should have, though it sucks, nobody's really at fault.

If something about the software has taken away their ability for auto climate control on key fob start then that's an issue.

My 2025 RST magically sets the heated seat and steering wheel on when it's below something like 52 degrees. I haven't had time to play with it yet being in Florida but will eventually. All I have regarding on star is the basic and not paying monthly fees of any kind. Does that have anything to do with the software goof?

Is that starting it with the fob or the app?

There’s another feature in the app that you set it yourself.

OnStar app. They paid for remote start AND had the ability to set the cabin temperature until the app updated.

So they can still remote start via the app but they do not have the ability to adjust cabin temp when doing so? Rather crappy to downgrade their abilities whether it was a mistake or not. Seems that if it's possible and you are paying for the app, then you should get the feature. I can't think of a time I wished I could custom set it higher or lower myself but I understand that's not the point.

My temp is almost always set at 70-72 so that's what the remote start works to. With the seats and the wheel heaters coming on whenever it's below 40F. And it blasts full fan on nothing but defroster until I get in then turns the fan down until the air is warm and switches to floor or dash air.
